Dear ASOD Family,

We are thrilled to announce that Lucia Cevidanes, DDS, PhD, MS, will be joining Adams School of Dentistry as the chair of the Department of Orthodontics. She will begin this appointment Aug. 15.

She is currently the Thomas and Doris Graber Professor in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan and is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Since 2011, Dr. Cevidanes has served as the predoctoral orthodontics director at Michigan.

She has served as the president of the North Carolina section of the American Association for Dental Research and is currently vice-president elect of the International Association for Dental Research's Craniofacial Biology group. She was recently appointed to the American Association of Orthodontists’ Leadership AI Taskforce.

“I am committed to advancing ASOD’s mission by integrating AI-driven innovation into clinical education, fostering translational research partnerships, and promoting excellence through cutting-edge technology,” she said. She looks forward to expanding interdisciplinary collaborations with global institutions and mentoring the next generation of clinicians and researchers.

“We are so excited for Dr. Cevidanes to take on this leadership role and share her expertise in orthodontics and AI with our students, residents, faculty and staff,” said Janet Guthmiller, DDS, PhD, dean, ASOD. “I’m looking forward to partnering with her in this role as we continue to build upon our excellence in the Department of Orthodontics.”
